Discover your Portsmouth with Gloria Schmidt

Portsmouth Free Public Library will host an overview of the activities of the Portsmouth Conservation Committee in the presentation “Discover Your Portsmouth” on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:30 PM.  The Committee will highlight some historic sites in Portsmouth that have been preserved for families to enjoy.

Conni Harding, Chair of the Portsmouth Conservation Committee, will explain that the intention of the “Discover Your Portsmouth” month is to bring attention to historic and/or recreational properties that are town owned.  There will be a special event at each location during the month.

Stephen Luce, Chair of Melville Park, will give some background information on the history of the park and what the committee is doing now. A hike at the park is scheduled for Saturday, October 5th at 10 AM

Ruth Sears, Chair of the Bristol Ferry Town Common Committee, will give an introduction to Bristol Town Common.  Actors will portray the characters (a bridge engineer and a barmaid) who got the grant for the ferry.  The event is Saturday, October 5th from 5:30-6:30.  There will be a photo contest of the gorgeous sunsets over the bay.

Substituting for Paul Murphy, chair of the Butts Hill Fort Restoration Committee, Gloria Schmidt will give an introduction to Butts Hill Fort.  Tours of the fort are scheduled for Saturday, October 19th.  There will be a raffle of Battle of Rhode Island goods.
