Co-sponsored by the Library and the Portsmouth Historical Society, Portsmouth Town Historian Jim Garman will present a lecture on “Steamboats on Narragansett Bay and the Sakonnet River”. The lecture will be illustrated by photographs of steamboats like those of the Fall River Line and others in the Bay from 1817 to 1938. Also discussed will be the Sakonnet Line which traveled from Providence with many stops to Sakonnet Point. This is one of a series of lectures in which Jim Garman shows off some of his large collection of local history photographs.
