The Library will host a program about the shipwreck of the Larchmont by Daniel F. Harrington, a former East Providence City Councilor and long-time featured monthly columnist for the Providence Journal. He is the founder and past President of Chartwell Wealth Management in Rumford and now works for MassMutual as a Securities Principal. He also serves as a Director for the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame.
Mr. Harrington's presentation tells the tale of the night the Larchmont, a wooden, side-wheel steamship, collided with the Harry Knowlton, a three-masted schooner, just off Block Island in zero-degree weather. The presentation covers the story of the ship, its crew, the passengers and the unbelievable stories of survival, panic, murder and, yes, miracles, using digitally restored photos and eyewitness accounts.
This program is free and open to the public but registration is recommended. Please sign up online or call the library at 683-9457 to sign up.
