Make this year’s 4th of July the time to get re-acquainted with our nation’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence. Bring your family and join fellow citizens to recite the words adopted unanimously by a fledgling Congress 247 years ago on July 4, 1776.
Meet at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 on the grounds of the Portsmouth Free Public Library. Copies of the document will be available. Children are welcome to read along. In case of rain we will meet inside the library in the Mello Program Room.
Please bring a chair or blanket and dress for the weather. Some participants like to wear red, white and blue for the occasion. By about 9:30 you can linger to chat or be on your way to parties and cookouts or parades and other celebrations of the day.
