Virtual Visit to the Great Swamp Management Area

Crisp spring mornings teeming with the anticipation of sunrise contain a beautiful surprise to the observant eye. The sky dance of the American woodcock (photo by Gerry Krausse) is one of the earliest and most theatrical signs of spring. Learn all about these strange and amazing birds and the unique young forests they inhabit in Rhode Island with the RIDEM Division of Fish and Wildlife! Join the Wildlife Outreach Team for a virtual visit to the Great Swamp Management Area to see a young forest in action, and learn how you can create habitat for wildlife in your own backyard!

Added bonus! URI graduate student Colby Slezak is working on a project monitoring American woodcock and he will join us as a guest for the program! Colby will plan on trapping that night so that we can show participants how we go about capturing and monitoring the birds! As with any field work, there is no guarantee that we will actually catch anything, but we will at least get to see the process and hear directly from the biologist!  This family friendly program will get you yearning for a walk in the woods!

We will meet at 7 PM via zoom for this discussion.  Please include your email address when you register for this discussion so that a link may be sent to you.
