"The Journey Begins" with Local Author Cynthia Elder

The Journey Begins by local author Cynthia Elder is an historical novel set in West Barnstable in 1830 and carries through the Great Age of Sail and the Civil War years.  Seen through the eyes of lighthouse keeper Joseph Nickerson and members of the Jenkins and Fish families whose livelihoods are tied to the sea, the story follows young James Jenkins as he travels the world as a sailor.  Separated for years from his family, James

Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice Flu Clinic

The Library will host a flu clinic staffed by Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice non-profit organization. The RI Department of Health purchases and distributes flu vaccine to providers such as Visiting Nurse. Clinics are for RI residents or those who work in RI age 19 and over only, no children will be vaccinated. Everyone should present their insurance card before their immunization so that their insurance company may be billed. Uninsured people will be vaccinated free of charge.

Portsmouth Free Public Library invites you to our 24th annual "Taste of Portsmouth" fundraising event at the Library, 2658 East Main Road, on Friday, November 7, from 7 PM to 9 PM.  This is a wonderful evening of samples of wine, beer, and amazing food from some of Portsmouth
