The fight for American Independence succeeded with the assistance of many people beyond the colonies. Black and indigenous soldiers were vital to the war, and women contributed money, nursing skills, food and more to the war efort. We usually think of soldiers like the Minutemen, but the fight for independence succeeded due to the efforts of a wide variety of people. Black and indigenous soldiers served in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment and were integrated in the Continental line, and women contributed money, nursing skills, food, clothing and more. Even if you do not have deep roots in the thirteen original colonies, DAR members have proven Quebecois, Dutch, French, Spanish and Jewish patriots.

On June 1, 2023 after retiring, Donna and Mike loaded up their 25' Airstream Flying Cloud and left Florida on a one year camping trip. Most people said they wouldn’t last 3 months. They returned to Portsmouth in June of 2024. Come hear all about their adventures and see the photos taken along the way.
