How important was the Battle of Prudence Island? Although a much smaller action than the Battle of Rhode Island two years later, the response of the Second Company of Portsmouth and reinforcements to a British raiding party on January 12-13, 1776, illustrated American resistance and resolve. Laurie Greaney, Regent of the Battle of Rhode Island Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will discuss British ship logs, Ezra Style's record of first-hand accounts, pension records and the role of enslaved men in the battle.
