Historical Sites and Books in Your Backyard with Gloria Schmidt

Portsmouth, RI, has such a unique history that authors have been writing about our town and our people for many years.  Portsmouth Free Public Library’s Summer Reading Program slogan is right:  we have books in and about our backyard.  Gloria Schmidt has been writing about Portsmouth people and places in her blog portsmouthhistorynotes.com since 2012.  With a background as a librarian, she collects Portsmouth based books to aid her research.  In this talk, she will share some of the historic spots in Portsmouth and highlight books that help us to understand our hometown people and places. This summer’s talk on Tuesday, July 23 at 6:30 PM at Portsmouth Free Public Library is a preview of a program sponsored by the Portsmouth Conservation Commission that designates October as a month locals can “Discover Your Portsmouth” and get to know three important town owned recreation and historical sites.

This program is free and open to the public but registration is recommended.  Please sign up below or call the library at 683-9457 to reserve your seat.
