History Come to Life!

Pompeii's Final Day

July 27th at 6:30pm

Join professor and author Matt Davis for a unique look at one of the most famous disasters in world history. Matt will describe the destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, how these cities were rediscovered almost 1500 years later, and what the well-preserved ruins have taught us about life in Ancient Rome. He’ll also discuss the volcanic risks still facing metropolitan Naples today.

Matt Davis is a retired professor who conducted the first survey studies of how residents living beneath Italy’s famous volcano, Mt. Vesuvius perceive their risk from potential eruptions. He has been an invited speaker at dozens of conferences and workshops across the U.S. and internationally and was a featured expert in the TV documentary: Could It Happen Here?
