Cemetery Research with Pegee Malcolm & Lew Keen

Members of the RI Historical Cemetery Commission Pegee Malcolm and Lew Keen will speak about the many historical cemeteries in RI. The 14 member commission represents the 5 counties in RI and maintains a database to disseminate information about RI's approximately 3200 cemeteries and the folks interred in them. These historic cemeteries demonstrate how each community developed and changed.

Session 4 of "The Island Hook-In" with Roberta Conti

Learn the craft of rug hooking if you are new to the craft or work on an existing project if you are a seasoned rug hooker at "The Island Hook-In" taught by Roberta Conti.  This session will show newcomers how to do rug hooking and get advice on starting a project of their own.  Roberta advises watching a Youtube video by Gene Shepard or a tutorial by Sara Beth Black to get an idea of the process.  This session, you can continue your new project and fine tune your new skill of rug hooking.

Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine with Karen Katin

Learn everything you need to know to safely and confidently use a sewing machine in this introductory class with Karen Katin from The Stitchery! All materials will be provided to make a simple project. No experience or machine necessary, use one of our 8 Brother sewing machines. All principles learned in class will apply to any make/model machine that you may have at home. 

Teen Fiction Book Club

Love Young Adult fiction? This is the place for you! All ages are welcome to discuss a YA title each month. Refreshments (usually all homemade by Sue!) are served, and no registration is required. Take a break from your adult life enjoy some teen fiction and discussion! Perfect for those 12-112.

Portsmouth: Then and Now with Jim Garman

The Portsmouth Historical Society will host a lecture by Society President and Town Historian Jim Garman, entitled “Portsmouth: Then and Now” at Portsmouth Free Public Library. Using his extensive personal collection of old and new photos, Garman will illustrate and discuss some of the many changes to Portsmouth over the years. This will be the final lecture of the year for the Historical Society which is already planning some of the history-related events for 2019.
