Hours and Guidelines

Saturday 9am - 1 pm

General guidelines for using the Library: The Library adheres to the RI DOH guidelines posted on ReopeningRI and the guidelines specific to libraries posted by RI Office of Library & Information Services (OLIS) on Reopening RI Libraries.  A copy of our Covid control plan is available at the circulation desk.  Our guidelines may change at the direction of the RI DOH or OLIS at any time.

 ·        Patrons self-screen upon entry; if you are not feeling well, or do not pass the screening questions in our lobby, you should not enter the library.

·

Face Masks are required for all visitors to the library.  Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear a mask.

·

We are fully open for browsing.  We ask that you limit your total time spent in the building to 30 minutes.  This should include the time required for choosing and checking out any materials, purchasing items from the Book Nook, and/or using our restroom facilities.

·

Returns should be placed in the outside book drop or in a bin in the main lobby.  Items are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours.  No fines will occur on items as they await check-in.

·

Grab and Go book selection is available to all patrons who do not wish to spend time at the library.  Email us at porlibref@gmail.com to initiate a request.

·

All seating has been removed per best practices outlined by the RI DOH.  Patrons cannot sit and read or study at the library.

·

A notary is available; please call the Reference desk at 683-9457 ext. 3 for hours.

·

Book donations are quarantined for 72 hours before they enter our Book Nook.  Due to space constraints, only one household group may use the Book Nook at a time.  Payment is on the honor system; we cannot provide change for items purchased.

Technology: Access to wifi, computers, and a printer is an essential service we are pleased to provide during this health crisis.

·

Public computers are available for 30 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes if no one is waiting for a computer, for a maximum of 60 minutes once per day per patron.

·

If you have a personal laptop, you can sit at one of our designated tables to use our wifi and wireless printer.  The Library makes a distinction between personal laptop use and study space.  As patrons may have unique software on their laptops, private documents they do not want shared on our public computers, or health concerns about using publicly shared keyboards, we provide tables for access to our wifi and printing capabilities.  Use is restricted to 30 minutes, with an additional 30 minutes if no one is waiting for a table, for a maximum of 60 minutes once per day per patron.

·

Wireless printing is available.  Scanning and copying is also available, but items are processed by staff; the public cannot use the copier themselves.  Payment is on the honor system; we cannot provide change for printing and copying costs.

·

Faxing is available at a self-service station in the lobby.

Things are a bit different, but in many ways they are the same, too.  New books and movies arrive each month.  We have programs on Zoom and take home activities for teens and kids.  And we are still here ready to help, and smiling behind our masks!
